World court opens hearings on Israel's aid obligations to Palestinians
Briefly

The International Court of Justice held oral arguments concerning Israel's obligation to permit unhindered aid for Palestinian civilians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The U.N. General Assembly sought an advisory opinion, as Israel has blocked all aid to Gaza for the past two months. Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA's commissioner, emphasized that Israel, as an occupying power, must facilitate aid. However, Israel boycotted the hearings, with Foreign Minister Saar criticizing the court's fairness, pointing fingers at UNRWA's potential association with militants.
As an occupying power, the State of Israel must provide services or facilitate their delivery - including through UNRWA - to the population it is occupying.
Foreign Minister Gideon Saar described the court hearings as a 'circus' and argued that 'it is not Israel that should be on trial'.
