Mirela Todorova, 36, faces trial for allegedly operating a drug delivery service from her Hollywood apartment, linked to a fentanyl overdose that led to the discovery of her operation. Although prosecutors have dropped a direct charge related to the death of Beverly Hills resident Ray Mascolo, she is still facing serious charges for three other nonfatal overdoses. Prosecutor Suria Bahadue argues that money motivated her actions, while Todorova's defense claims she is not the main perpetrator, characterizing her as a pawn rather than the mastermind behind the operation.
"Each of these victims thought they were getting clean oxy pills. Instead, they got fentanyl, the same deadly drug, from the same deadly person."
"Forrest Gump is being accused of being Scarface," Brown said, suggesting that Todorova is not as culpable as the prosecution claims.
"The evidence will show that money was the motive," Bahadue said, adding that Todorova ultimately put profit over people's lives.
A sprawling digital trail - composed of text exchanges, online payments, and photos - leads to Todorova as part of the drug operation.
