West End's phone theft hotspots revealed as police record over 30 snatches a day on just 30 streets
"The 30 most blighted streets for phone theft in London's West End can be revealed - with an average of 31 reported offences committed every day. Figures show Oxford Street, Europe's busiest shopping precinct, topped the list with 8,745 reports in nearly two years often by criminals on e-bikes and electric scooters. It was followed by neighbouring Regent Street where 2,294 were stolen between January 1, 2024 and December 2 last year."
"London remains Europe's phone snatch capital with about 80,000 devices stolen annually one every six minutes. But a police crackdown on thieves and their organised network of handlers plus greater public awareness has led to a 24 per cent drop in offences. A Met spokesman said new high speed Sur-ron e-bikes and drones in the sky deployed to catch snatchers are beating criminals at their own game."
