'We'll smile playing football despite racist abuse'
"We kindly asked them to leave, showed them our booking reference, but they were very reluctant, making all sorts of excuses."
"We were not physically as strong as those teenage boys and they were greater in number as well. So we were quite anxious,"
"A lot of players were hit on the body and hurt, including myself, And that's when I heard racist slurs and other abusive words shouted at us."
"Officers quickly attended and spoke to the women and the alleged suspects who made counter-allegations."
Screamer Alliance FC, a women's football team of Chinese players, arrived to use a pre-booked pitch in Barnard Park, Islington, and found about 20 teenagers occupying it. The teenagers refused to leave, took some equipment, and hurled footballs while shouting racist slurs. One woman was kicked in the head during the incident and several players were hit and hurt. The team called the Metropolitan Police and the park manager said he would report the incident to Islington Council. Officers attended, spoke to both sides and independent witnesses, and inquiries were made at the scene. The team reported feeling scared but said they will continue to play with smiles on their faces.
