Fujitsu was aware of intermittent bugs in the Horizon software prior to its launch. Despite this knowledge, the Post Office maintained the illusion that its data was entirely accurate. As a result, hundreds of prosecutions occurred, leading to the largest miscarriage of justice in British history. The actions of individuals within the Post Office and Fujitsu, along with their institutional responses, have left many victims suffering from their unacceptable behavior, discrediting both organizations and the wider criminal justice system.
The hundreds of prosecutions that resulted from this are now viewed as the largest miscarriage of justice in British history.
Despite being aware of the software's issues, the Post Office maintained the fiction that its data was always accurate.
All of these [prosecuted] people are properly to be regarded as victims of wholly unacceptable behavior perpetrated by a number of individuals employed by and/or associated with the Post Office and Fujitsu.
The report discredited not only the Post Office and Fujitsu managers, but the criminal justice system that remained blind to ongoing miscarriages.
