Victoria McCloud, the UK's first out trans High Court judge, reports a rising climate of fear and increased danger for transgender people compared with the 1990s. The FWS v Scottish Ministers Supreme Court ruling defined the Equality Act 2010 sex definition as referring to biological sex, which McCloud says has worsened conditions. McCloud retired in 2024 amid growing hostility, moved to Ireland, and now avoids London, fearing confrontation and targeted attacks from extreme elements of the gender-critical movement.
