"The regime in Iran is "in its death throes" an Anglican bishop who left the country after the revolution has warned, but cautions it "shouldn't be underestimated". The Rt Rev Guli Francis-Dehqani, Bishop of Chelmsford, said that the regime is "doing everything it can to survive another day"."
"Bishop Francis-Dehqani, 59, was born in Iran in 1966. Her father, Hassan Dehqani-Tafti, served as the Anglican Bishop in Iran and presiding bishop of the Episcopal church in Jerusalem and the Middle East. In the wake of the revolution in 1979, there were raids on their house, her father was imprisoned and there was an assassination attempt on her father's life in which her mother Margaret was injured."
The Rt Rev Guli Francis-Dehqani, Bishop of Chelmsford and a member of the House of Lords, has warned that Iran's regime is in its final stages but should not be underestimated as it desperately attempts to survive. Born in Iran in 1966, the bishop fled the country following the 1979 revolution when her family faced persecution, including imprisonment of her father and an assassination attempt that injured her mother. She expressed deep personal concern about the situation in Iran, stating she weeps over what could unfold, and currently cannot contact anyone she knows in the country. The bishop affirmed her support for the UK's decision to uphold international law and decline participation in initial US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
