The 63-year-old, who has felt at home in Ireland since childhood, expressed that the moment felt overdue and significant. In a moving ceremony held in Killarney, he took an oath of loyalty alongside thousands of new citizens. Reflecting on Ireland's leadership in global issues, he articulated his pride in the nation and its values, stating he has always identified as Irish and considers Ireland his home.
I'm a little tardy with the paperwork... I've been living in Ireland now since I was one year old. But the time is right.
The ceremony had been very moving and... particularly significant for me because of Ireland's support for multilateral organizations, such as the international criminal court and the UN.
