A vessel with two people on board experienced engine failure on Lough Derg south of Killaloe Bridge near the border with Co. Tipperary. The alarm was raised at about 8.15pm on Tuesday, May 26 when the vessel began drifting south toward Ballina slipway. Killaloe Coast Guard members launched a boat crew from Pier Head and located the casualty vessel on the Tipperary shoreline south of the old Ballina/Killaloe bridge. The Coast Guard took the vessel under tow, and a shore team assisted. The vessel was brought safely to the public jetty in Killaloe and securely moored without incident. The operation ended at 9.15pm and no injuries were reported.
