Tuk-tuk driver who stole 31,000 of fine wine from high-end London restaurants given two weeks to return stash
"Outlining the facts of the case, prosecutor Matthew Jolliffe said the defendant entered Comptoir Cafe and Wine in Mayfair in the early hours of May 1 and made off with several bottles of wine valued at 6,000 and 200 cash from the till. On May 13, and June 8, he attended Oliveto and Olivo on Elizabeth Street in Belgravia and took multiple bottles of wine and cash."
"Mr Jolliffe said: The defendant used a pedal cab to cycle out of the City of London. He returned on the same pedal cab at 3.35am, loaded a wheelie bin into the back and left at 3.57am cycling out of the City of London. Around 100 was taken from the cash till and 73 bottles, at a total replacement cost of 23,801, the court heard."
Iuliu Kubola repeatedly stole fine wine, champagne and modest amounts of cash from three high-end London restaurants during early-morning raids in May and June. He used a pedal cab and a tuk-tuk, loading stolen bottles into a wheelie bin to transport them; some of the stash was recovered on his person when arrested. Incidents caused damage to doors and locks, and tills were rifled for small cash amounts. CCTV recorded multiple entries, and a judge postponed sentencing to give Kubola the chance to help police recover the remaining stolen wine.
