"The survey involved 2,000 UK university students aged between 18 and 24, studying at 79 universities, and revealed that 60 per cent of students rated their establishment a seven, meaning they believed their seat of learning provided a generally inclusive environment. Students were asked to rate how LGBTQ+ friendly the university was on a scale from zero to 10. The University of Brighton came out on top with a score of 8.7, suggesting the campus was one at which LGBTQ+ students feel safe, supported and celebrated."
"At the other end of the scale, the University of Dundee received just 5.2. Portsmouth and Bradford, both with 5.5, were only marginally better. The elite Oxbridge universities also fell short. While Cambridge managed just 5.6, Oxford nudged up to a six. These scores, while not overtly hostile, were below the national average and suggested that LGBTQ+ students at these institutions could be facing more challenges, feel less supported or experienced a less-welcoming social environment, the study concluded. However, it was also possible that students at the colleges that scored low marks were more critical than their peers who studied elsewhere."
"Five per cent of the students who responded gave their universities a mark of nought. The survey was analysed by Erobella's data and research team, led by Brenda Jensen. Share your thoughts! 2,000 UK university students aged 18–24 from 79 institutions rated their universities' LGBTQ+ friendliness on a zero-to-10 scale. Sixty per cent of respondents gave their university a seven, indicating a generally inclusive environment. The University of Brighton scored highest at 8.7; Derby scored eight, Nottingham 7.8 and the University of South Wales 7.7. The University of Dundee scored lowest at 5.2, with Portsmouth and Bradford at 5.5; Cambridge scored 5.6 and Oxford six. Lower scores may reflect greater challenges or less welcoming social environments for LGBTQ+ students, or more critical student assessments. Five per cent awarded a score of zero. The survey was analysed by Erobella's data and research team led by Brenda Jensen.
