Since late March, a buzzard in Havering-atte-Bower has been attacking residents as it guards its nest in Havering Country Park. Multiple incidents forced a primary school to keep children inside and led walkers to alter routes. While some residents like Louise Whittle express more fear than actual concern about attacks, others like Nikki Dix have suffered injuries from the buzzard. The local school has creatively used the situation, teaching students about birds of prey, despite the buzzard's protective nature leading to limited intervention options for authorities.
Louise Whittle, a local resident, expressed concern over the buzzard, stating, "It's just going on a rampage...the biggest problem is the fear around it rather than it actually happening."
Nikki Dix described her experience, stating, "I was on 'high-alert' after being attacked by the bird of prey in Havering Country Park. I now have to avoid my usual route until July."
