"The pro-Palestine protest group was proscribed under terror laws in July this year. Hundreds of people have protested their terror ban by holding up signs saying I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action an act that is now an offence under terrorism legislation. Government figures published on Thursday show that of the 1,886 arrests in the year up to September for terrorism-related activity 1,630 or 86 per cent are linked to supporting Palestine Action."
Proscription of Palestine Action in July led to a dramatic surge in terrorism-related arrests. Of 1,886 arrests in the year up to September, 1,630 (86%) were linked to support for Palestine Action, compared with 248 arrests the previous year. Arrests rose from 63 in April–June to 1,706 in July–September, an increase of 2,608%. Those arrested for supporting Palestine Action were 4.4 times more likely to be female and had an average age of 57 versus 30 for non-linked arrests. Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori has legally challenged the proscription, with counsel describing the ban as novel, unprecedented and extreme.
