A recent NASUWT survey reveals that 81% of teachers believe that violence and abuse among pupils have escalated. The survey, completed by over 5,800 teachers, found alarming statistics on physical abuse, with 40% having experienced violence from students within the past year. Incidents involving weapons and extreme indiscipline are reportedly rising, prompting the NASUWT union to pass a motion addressing the ongoing safety concerns in classrooms. General Secretary Patrick Roach has urged for urgent action, labeling the situation a national emergency affecting educators' wellbeing.
More than four in five (81 per cent) teachers feel the number of pupils exhibiting violent and abusive behaviours has increased, according to a poll by the NASUWT teaching union.
Patrick Roach, general secretary of the NASUWT teaching union, said teachers say mobile phones are lethal weapons which pupils are using at school to abuse others and disrupt lessons.
