George Watkins, a 31-year-old teacher, has been permanently barred from teaching after being convicted of 19 sexual offences against boys aged 14 to 16. He groomed these minors through the dating app Grindr, targeting especially those who were gay but had not yet come out publicly. His heinous actions included the abuse of multiple victims and the recording of these acts. Watkins was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2023 and officially banned from the teaching profession following a decision by the Teaching Regulation Agency.
Watkins, previously of Sunbower Avenue, Dunstable, arranged to meet boys aged between 14 and 16 on the dating app Grindr.
The teacher pleaded guilty to 19 sex offences including seven counts of sexual activity with a child and three counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child.
Watkins particularly targeted boys who were gay but had not come out to their families, exploiting their vulnerabilities.
On May 23 this year, the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) decided that Watkins should be permanently banned from the profession.
