Swedish journalist Joakim Medin has been released from a Turkish jail after being arrested on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson confirmed his return to Sweden, extending gratitude to foreign ministry staff and European colleagues for their support. Medin, who went to Turkey to report on protests linked to the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, received an 11-month suspended sentence for the insult but was detained awaiting trial on further serious charges.
