"He said the storm would bring "some strong winds and some significant snow to central and perhaps southern parts". The meteorologist added: "As that rain pushes its way and it hits against that cold air that we currently have across us... and so on the northern edge, we are likely to see some fairly significant snow as we go through later tomorrow and into Friday.""
Thermostats control only the final room temperature, not heating speed, so raising the set temperature does not warm rooms faster and increases energy bills. Storm Goretti will bring wet, windy, wintry conditions with strong winds and significant snow to central and possibly southern UK. Rain meeting existing Arctic cold air is likely to produce significant snow on the storm's northern edge into Friday. Arctic air has driven temperatures below zero across large areas, with lows near -12.5C in Norfolk and heavy northern snow. Transport disruption and amber cold health alerts have strained hospitals, and services have asked patients to make their own way to hospital when possible. Nearly 700 flights at Amsterdam Schiphol have been cancelled, including over 100 UK links.
