Stephen Lawrence's mother calls son's killer a coward at parole hearing
"The only person he feels sorry for is himself. As far as I am concerned he is a coward. He refused to show his face. He needs to look me in the eye and tell me exactly what he did and why he did it."
"The evidence to me is crystal clear. He is not safe to be released. He is a danger to the public and a danger to people like me. He was a violent racist and is still a violent racist. He has not changed."
"He says he's sorry for the pain he caused me and my family, I don't believe him"
David Norris, convicted for involvement in Stephen Lawrence's 1993 murder, made his first parole hearing appearance via video and apologized for the attack but refused to name the four or five other attackers or show his face. Doreen Lawrence publicly rejected the apology, calling him a coward and asserting he remains a violent racist who is not safe for release. Most witnesses did not believe Norris was ready for freedom. Norris admitted involvement in 2018 after confessing to a Catholic priest. Two days of the hearing were public; the final day will be private. Doreen urged the Metropolitan Police to investigate his claim of fearing for his family's safety.
