Stephen Lawrence murderer apologises to teen's family but refuses to name other killers
"Neville Lawrence, 83, had said Norris should name the other members of the gang who murdered him before being considered for parole. But when pushed at the hearing to reveal more about the others involved, Norris said that in an "ideal world" he would give Mr Lawrence's family "every detail" but that it would put him and his family at risk."
"Only two of Mr Lawrence's suspected five or six alleged attackers have ever faced justice. Norris was convicted of Mr Lawrence's murder at the Old Bailey in 2011 and jailed for life with a minimum term of 14 years and three months in January 2012. Gary Dobson, was also convicted following a trial that hinged on tiny traces of forensic evidence in 2012 and must serve a minimum of 15 years."
David Norris publicly apologised to Stephen Lawrence's family while seeking release on parole but refused to identify his alleged accomplices. Norris said he had been a violent, racist 16-year-old and expressed remorse for the killing. Neville Lawrence urged Norris to name other gang members before parole consideration, but Norris said revealing details would endanger him and his family. Only two suspected attackers have faced justice: Norris, convicted at the Old Bailey in 2011 with a minimum term set in 2012, and Gary Dobson, convicted in 2012. A public parole hearing took place, with later private deliberations and the Justice Secretary opposing release.
