A Russian spy ring operating from a British seaside guesthouse has been dismantled, with six members sentenced to a total of 44 years for espionage. They were involved in surveillance of Russian dissidents and planned attacks on specific targets, including journalists and former politicians. The group communicated with Jan Marsalek from Wirecard, revealing a sophisticated operation that compromised lives and national security. The case, handled by the Met Police, showcases one of the most significant enemy operations on British soil, leading to substantial prison sentences for its members.
The Old Bailey heard the cell gathered information on targets including a Bellingcat investigative journalist, a Kazakhstani former politician and a Russian lawyer, while the group spied on a US army base in Germany.
Mr Justice Hilliard told Gaberova that she knew what she was doing was for Russia and found it "exciting and glamorous".
Roussev was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison for his involvement in six 'sophisticated' operations and obtaining false identity documents.
This investigation is believed to be one of the largest and most complex enemy operations to be uncovered on UK soil.
