A report by the Home Affairs Committee revealed police forces were unprepared for the scale of violence that erupted in the riots following the murder of three children in Southport. The disorder resulted in attacks on hotels housing asylum seekers and mosques, exposing officers to significant risk, though their response was deemed appropriate. The report highlighted that police should have anticipated the risk of rising disorder. With 1,804 arrests so far, and 302 officers injured, the report underscores the severe impact of the violence, calling for proactive measures in future incidents.
This will change some officers for the rest of their lives and they will live with the impacts of it for the rest of their lives.
The policing response was entirely appropriate given the violence and criminality, with no evidence to suggest two-tier policing.
