"The murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman remains one of the most shocking and devastating cases in our nation's history, and our thoughts are with their families. Ian Huntley was attacked in prison with a makeshift weapon, leaving him blinded, according to reports."
"Ian Huntley, 52, was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident in the workshop on the morning of Thursday, February 26. A police investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing. A file is being prepared for the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration for charges."
"This is it, this is the end of Huntley. He is effectively dead and, at the best, is drawing his last breaths. He never really recovered from the beating he took, and never stood much of a chance of doing so."
Ian Huntley, 52, a former school caretaker convicted of murdering Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells in Soham in 2002, died in hospital following a severe attack at HMP Frankland maximum security prison on February 26. He was beaten with a makeshift weapon in the prison workshop, suffering severe brain trauma that left him blinded. Brain tests revealed he was in a vegetative state. His life support machine was turned off on Friday following consultations with his mother, and he was confirmed dead on Saturday. Durham Constabulary confirmed the incident and stated that a police investigation is ongoing with a file being prepared for the Crown Prosecution Service.
