London can expect light snow on Monday 5 January with lows around -3C. Temperatures are set to fall to about -1C on New Year’s Eve, -2C on January 2-3 and -3C on January 4. A yellow warning for snow and ice covers parts of Scotland from 06:00 on New Year’s Day until midnight on January 2, with frequent heavy snow showers likely to disrupt travel. Snow amounts of 2-5cm are expected by Friday morning, rising to 10cm locally and 10-20cm above 200m, with 30cm+ on highest routes. An amber health alert covers north-east and north-west England, warning of impacts on health and social care and increased deaths among those aged 65+ or with health conditions.
