Santa takes to the Thames in fundraising effort
"Our lifestyle isn't for everyone. It's pretty bonkers, but while we're young, it makes everyday life an adventure,"
"I've had parents messaging me saying how excited their children are to see Santa and the sleigh boat."
"It had to be lightweight enough to handle the winter current, removable, built to the exact dimensions of our boat, secure at speed, safe, legal, and still have power for the lights."
"Raising money for such a meaningful charity really matters to us."
A couple living on a small residential island on the River Thames mounted an illuminated Santa sleigh on their motorboat and sailed past landmarks such as Hampton Court and Kingston Bridge. They stopped along the river to hand out gifts and collect donations for Teenage Cancer Trust, raising just over £1,000. Building the removable sleigh required a design that was lightweight, safe, legal, secure at speed, and able to cope with winter currents while powering lights. The couple rely on a motorboat year-round because there is no bridge linking their island to the mainland.
