Reports of sexual assaults and harassment on trains across England, Scotland and Wales have risen 37% since 2015. There were 2,661 incidents reported last year, with one in ten victims children and some younger than 13. Victims described feeling trapped, cornered and unable to escape while travelling. A reported case involved an 18-year-old harassed by a group of drunken men on a train; officers are investigating. British Transport Police called the rise a concern and pledged to take every allegation seriously. The rail industry group said operators have a zero tolerance policy toward sexual harassment. Sexual offences include rape, sexual assault and harassment.
