Psychologist says Lawrence killer is unreliable narrator' and not ready to be freed
"I don't know the answer to that, but I would say it's probably likely a combination of those things. Sometimes he has a good memory and good detail for certain things, other times less so. I do think that he wants to project certainly in the public domain himself in a positive light."
"I think hearing the evidence was quite confusing sometimes admitting some things, sometimes going back on that and sometimes being confused around dates,"
"He clearly wants to be careful what he admits to."
"'16-year-old horrible, violent, racist, young man'"
David Norris, 49, apologised for his role in Stephen Lawrence's racist murder while seeking parole. A prison psychologist assessed Norris and identified inconsistencies in his evidence, including admissions followed by retractions and confusion over dates. The expert noted possible causes such as hearing pressure or deliberate caution, and judged Norris to be an unreliable narrator of his own life. The psychologist recorded a 2017 incident involving racially disrespectful language that Norris later said he could not remember. The expert recommended Norris remain in closed conditions and concluded he has not met the test for release.
