Prince Harry's appeal against the loss of publicly-funded security was denied by the Court of Appeal. Following claims he was unfairly treated after leaving the Royal Family, judges concluded that his arguments were emotional but lacked legal merit. The ruling highlighted that Harry only qualified for security while in the UK, not abroad. His lawyer argued he was unfairly singled out, emphasizing serious risks to his safety. Despite these concerns, the court maintained that the current framework for providing royal protection was logical and appropriate, potentially concluding the security dispute.
The duke was in effect stepping in and out of the cohort of protection provided by Ravec. Outside the UK, he was outside the cohort, but when in the UK, his security would be considered as appropriate.
At the appeal hearing, Harry's lawyer Shaheed Fatima KC said he had been 'singled out for different, unjustified and inferior treatment.' She emphasized there is a person whose safety and life is at stake.
