Police confirm 'no further action' in Michael McMonagle wages probe
Briefly

Michael McMonagle's case, linked to his previous employment with Sinn Féin, found he likely misrepresented his job details, which may have caused a misuse of public funds. The review uncovered that for three months in 2020, McMonagle held two full-time positions simultaneously while working as a party press officer. Sinn Féin was suggested to have been negligent in monitoring his workload. Following the review, the PSNI conducted inquiries but took no further action, while Sinn Féin leadership acknowledged the need for lessons to be learned from the incident.
Last September, it was revealed that two Sinn Féin press officers gave references for McMonagle after he had been arrested and suspended from the party - but before he had appeared in court. Both party officials later resigned.
Enquiries conducted by the PSNI's Economic Crime Unit are now complete. There will be no further police action at this time.
The review said Sinn Féin 'ought to have known' McMonagle was contracted to work for about 80 hours a week.
I think it's been a very useful piece of work, because I think there's lessons to be learned for everybody as a result of the Stormont report into McMonagle's employment.
