Plans unveiled for over 5,000 new homes in London's 'happiest place to live'
"Huge plans have been announced for London's happiest neighbourhood to grow with at least 5,500 new homes, 20 per cent more jobs and 10 per cent more businesses over the next decade. Richmond Council has approved its draft growth plan, which sets out a framework to attract more investment, workers and visitors by 2036. It comes after Richmond-upon-Thames was named as London's happiest borough thanks to its access to green spaces and its popular shops and restaurants in a Rightmove study."
"The specific goals of the document include meeting or exceeding targets in Richmond's new Local Plan, which was adopted in October, to build 5,500 new homes over the next decade including 500 affordable homes. The authority plans to work with developers to identify and unlock sites for new housing and maximise funding to deliver a sustainable pipeline of new homes. A total of 2,527 households were recorded on the council's waiting list this month, with 761 families in temporary accommodation."
Richmond Council approved a draft growth plan to expand Richmond-upon-Thames by 2036 with targets for housing, jobs, businesses and earnings. The plan sets a goal to build at least 5,500 new homes over the next decade, including 500 affordable homes, and to work with developers and secure funding for a sustainable housing pipeline. Targets include increasing jobs by 20 per cent, trading businesses by 10 per cent, and earnings of the lowest paid by 20 per cent, while reducing unemployment to pre-pandemic levels and raising economic activity above 80 per cent. The plan also seeks to grow high-growth firms and boost overall economic wellbeing amid technological change.
