Partial remains of young man discovered off coast of Dublin
Briefly

A recent examination of unidentified leg bones revealed they belonged to a male, estimated to have died one to two years prior to their discovery in May 2024. The bones, which did not match any missing persons in the DNA database, suggest he was between 5'8" and 5'10". Despite the ongoing Garda investigation, the identity remains unknown, and investigations are hindered by limited DNA sharing protocols in Ireland compared to international systems like Interpol's I-Familia database for missing persons.
The grim discovery was only added to the Department of Justice's database of unidentified remains after DNA testing failed to match them to a missing person.
Determining the identity of the remains will determine the course of the ongoing Garda investigation.
Interpol use 'I-Familia', a dedicated global database for identifying missing persons based on international DNA kinship matching.
At present, Ireland doesn't openly exchange DNA data with other genealogy services, which have been used to solve unidentified persons cases in the United States.
