More than 1,000 people pledged to risk arrest at a protest opposing the ban on Palestine Action. Tim Crosland, a co-founder of Defend Our Juries, was arrested hours before a planned press conference. The protest will be the second major demonstration outside parliament expressing support for the proscribed group and the fifth gathering since its proscription in early July. Metropolitan police said five people were arrested in a counter-terrorism investigation on suspicion of encouraging support for a proscribed organisation under section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Police named the arrested individuals by age and location. A senior counter-terrorism officer acknowledged strong public feeling while Amnesty International called the arrests concerning and demanded immediate release.

The Metropolitan police said on Tuesday that five people had been arrested as part of a proactive investigation led by the force's counter terrorism command into suspected activity linked to Palestine Action. Police said those arrested were a 26-year-old man in south London,
Ch Supt Helen Flanagan, head of operations for the counter terrorism command, said: We know there is a great strength of feeling towards the situation in Palestine and thousands have been able, and continue to be able, to express their views through protest and demonstrations, without breaking counter-terrorism laws. Amnesty International said the arrests were incredibly concerning and called for the immediate release of the people held.
