Three north London fraudsters were sentenced for posing as police officers in a courier fraud scheme targeting victims in North Yorkshire between October and November 2020. Imran Miah, Shamant Sheraji, and Andy Munoz-Cadena convinced their victims to withdraw cash, which they then collected, leading to financial and emotional trauma. All pleaded guilty and received prison sentences ranging from two to over three years. Authorities emphasize ongoing efforts to combat fraud, particularly aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals from these scams.
Detective Sergeant Gillian Coulson stated, 'The impact on courier fraud victims is incredibly damaging. It not only sees their finances destroyed but the emotional impact can be just as severe.'
Detective Inspector Shaun Fordy noted that as part of Operation Sentinel, 'we will continue to target fraudsters and disrupt their criminal activity. Offenders typically target elderly or vulnerable people.'
