Nightmare for passengers as Tube station platforms to close for months for repairs
"Barons Court station was built in 1904 and opened in 1905 to serve the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR). At that time the area was still agricultural land, but by end of the century it has been developed with housing. Now over a century on, many of the station's key features are believed to have reached the end of their lifespan and now require replacing."
""This is the safest and quickest way to remove and replace the platform roof, which includes around 800 panes of glass." "We have been carrying out essential restoration and maintenance work at the station since February 2025. "During this time, it became clear that the station requires more extensive repairs, which can only be safely undertaken by temporarily closing each platform one at a time.""
Barons Court, a Grade II-listed London Underground station, will close each platform to allow extensive roof repairs. The eastbound platform will be closed from January 19 until early June, and the westbound platform will be closed from mid-July until the end of the year. The restoration includes removing and replacing the platform roof, which contains about 800 panes of glass. The station was built in 1904 and opened in 1905 to serve the Metropolitan District Railway; many original features have reached the end of their lifespan and require replacement. TfL apologised and advised passengers to change at Earl's Court for Piccadilly services or use West Kensington for the District line. Both platforms will be open during the Queen's Club tennis tournament.
