Royal Mail is issuing a set of 10 stamps to mark 90 years since Monopoly launched in the UK. The stamps feature locations from the classic board—Old Kent Road, Liverpool Street Station and Park Lane—alongside spaces such as Free Parking and Chance. John Waddington Limited of Leeds secured the European licence in 1935 and manufactured Monopoly in the city until the 1990s. Norman Victor Watson first played the game in the UK at his Horsforth home in 1935 and reportedly played it for a whole weekend. Waddingtons was sold to Hasbro in 1994. Monopoly is now played in 114 countries, translated into over 40 languages, and enjoyed by more than a billion players. The stamps go on general sale on 16 October.
