New DLR trains spotted on test runs between Beckton and Stratford
"Though the trains will stop at all stations, the doors will not open and you will not be able to board the train. These new trains will have a special livery and "not in service" signage on the front of the train and its doors while they are tested, so it will be clear they are not part of the service if you see one stop at the platform."
"One thing to look out for, or more correctly, listen out for, is the noise - or lack of. Apart from the odd squeal on the tracks, the trains themselves are very quiet. They pretty much glide up to you, and I wouldn't be too surprised if people jump in surprise if they have their backs to the trains when one quietly pulls into a platform."
New DLR trains are running test services between Beckton and Stratford that stop at stations but do not open doors, preventing passenger boarding. The trains display a special livery and "not in service" signage on the front and doors to indicate testing status. The vehicles are noticeably quieter than existing stock, with only occasional track squeals as they glide into platforms. Stratford station DLR platforms by the main entrance are a recommended spotting location where short-turning trains may return within about ten minutes. Thirty-two new trains will replace older units and the 54 on order will increase the fleet by 22.
