Following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in central Myanmar, around 60,000 individuals are displaced and living in tent encampments. The quake, the strongest in over a century, caused significant destruction, including collapsed buildings and damaged infrastructure. Blogger Natty Tangmeesang highlighted the dire needs for food and necessities in affected areas, while official and media reports present varying figures on casualties. Relief efforts face major challenges due to the ongoing civil war and tight control by the military government, which complicates the distribution of international aid.
The areas that I went to were homes to many monasteries, schools for nunneries, and remote villages. They are still in need of everything from food, drinking water, daily necessities, and funds.
Myanmar's military government, the State Administration Council, reported 3,145 people have died, but reports from local media suggest the death toll might exceed 4,300.
Relief efforts are further complicated by the ongoing civil war, which began after the 2021 coup, severely impacting the distribution of aid.
International aid enters Myanmar only through the State Administration Council, complicating relief efforts due to their limited control in the region.
