Dr. Ahsan Mansur, the central bank governor of Bangladesh, is in London to discuss recovering billions allegedly stolen from the nation's banking system by former regime officials. His efforts have sparked a disinformation campaign against him, attempting to undermine his reputation through misleading emails targeting his family. Mansur insists he knows who is behind this campaign and remains determined to pursue an asset recovery effort that targets corrupt individuals. He emphasizes the necessity of his role and the unjust nature of the attacks during his crucial mission of asset recovery.
"The asset recovery effort is to go after those people who have diverted massive amounts of resources from Bangladesh and, in particular, from the banking system," he told the Observer.
"We know the names, we all know the names, and they or their operators are putting it together [the alleged disinformation campaign]."
"If Mansur was investigating the unexplained wealth of Bangladeshis, they suggested, why was his own family excluded?"
"My advisers tell me to ignore it. Or I can quit. But if I quit, they win."
