"She said doctors gave her ultrasounds which did not pick up any issues, and she was also given various diagnoses including a cyst, endometriosis and prolapse, for which she was advised to perform pelvic floor exercises. "It was so confusing because you trust in the doctors and you think if it was something serious they would have known," she said. Jessica Mason experienced pain, swelling, bleeding and vaginal pain beginning in 2019 and endured repeated clinic visits. Ultrasounds failed to detect the problem and clinicians provided diagnoses including cyst, endometriosis and prolapse with pelvic floor exercises recommended. A smear test six months before diagnosis returned negative. In May 2022 she sought ultrasound results, broke down in tears, and was offered an MRI for peace of mind. The MRI in June 2022 revealed cancer requiring urgent treatment. A Senedd health committee found women had been let down by Welsh government inaction; the Welsh government said it is working with the NHS to improve outcomes. She says she has lost faith in doctors.
