The High Court has been presented with evidence of negligence by former banker Michael Fingleton in the management of the Irish Nationwide Building Society (INBS). It is alleged that his poor decisions concerning financial and property investments were pivotal in the institution's downfall, particularly after reaching a peak of â¬16bn in assets in 2007, only to become a significant victim of the 2008 financial crisis. Now 87 years old and in ill health following a stroke, Fingleton led INBS from 1971 to 2009.
The High Court heard claims that Michael Fingleton's negligent mismanagement of the Irish Nationwide Building Society led to its collapse following poor financial decisions and risky property investments.
Testimony revealed that during Fingleton's tenure, the INBS, which peaked at â¬16bn in assets in 2007, ultimately succumbed to the financial crisis of 2008.
