"Mr Skelt has ongoing health problems and said he had never contested running the pizza business, for which he had originally gained permission. He was dismissed without notice from the MO19 Specialist Firearms Command Unit. During his evidence, Mr Skelt said he only did it to prepare for his looming retirement through ill health and stressed he had been "open and honest" about his actions."
"Stating that the allegations had been proven, panel chairwoman and Assistant Commissioner Rachel Williams said Mr Skelt's behaviour was one of being "well enough to work but not well enough to serve the public in any capacity". She said members of the public would have expected Mr Skelt to comply with an order, issued in a letter in August 2025, to stop running the business while he was on long-term sick leave."
A Metropolitan Police firearms sergeant was dismissed without notice after operating and promoting a mobile pizza business while on long-term sick leave. The officer had prior permission to run the business but was ordered in August 2025 to stop while on sick leave. He said he acted to prepare for retirement due to ongoing ill health and maintained he had been open and honest. The disciplinary panel found the allegations proven, citing a public expectation to comply with the order and noting a financial motive and a very public promotional role on social media.
