Pc Perry Lathwood, 51, wrongly arrested Jocelyn Agyemang in Croydon in July 2023 over alleged bus fare evasion and used insulting language, calling her love and a daft cow. The woman was handcuffed in front of her young son and footage of the arrest went viral. Lathwood was initially convicted of assault and fined £1,500 after a trial that heard he grabbed her arm, causing bruising; that conviction was later quashed. A misconduct panel found he committed misconduct but allowed him to remain employed and issued a written warning. The IOPC stressed officers must treat the public with respect.
