Maternity inquiry must include care culture - dad
""There were no cries, no sound," Mr Green said. "Just beeping machines, hushed whispers and a lot of heaviness in the air. "That was when it really hit home. When there was no cry from Freyja, that was really quite hard.""
""deeply sorry for the tragic loss""
""culture of arrogance""
A baby girl, Freyja, died five days after a traumatic birth at St James's University Hospital in March 2019. A resident attempted manual rotation before a forceps delivery that left the newborn with serious neck and spinal fractures and needing resuscitation and specialist care. The parents reported poor bereavement support and received an apology from the trust for that care. An inquest found no medical negligence. Campaigners and the bereaved father call for an independent inquiry into Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust maternity units to examine culture as well as clinical failings.
