Upon arriving in Dublin Airport, Deputy Murphy criticized the Irish government, urging Tánaiste Simon Harris to take concrete actions against Israel's policies. Previously, he was detained in Cairo while attempting to retrieve his phone after participating in a protest march advocating for Gaza. Murphy noted strong support for Palestine from Egyptians but expressed disappointment in the Egyptian State's stance. He also defended the legitimacy of his participation in the protest against claims of seeking publicity, emphasizing community involvement over personal motives.
The main thing I'm asking Simon Harris to do, and we're asking Simon Harris to do, is not to do more for us - it's to match his strong words of criticism of Israel with actions.
It's clear that the Egyptian people are very, very supportive of Palestine. Obviously, we're disappointed with the stance that the Egyptian State took.
This is not my stunt at all. This is 4,000 people that were participating. I was actually a late participant in joining it.
To fully implement the Occupied Territories Bill, to stop the overflights of weapons going through our airspace, and to stop our Central Bank authorising the sale of Israeli bonds in the European Union.
