There is no risk to the public and ongoing activity in relation to this major incident can be expected as we continue our inquiries. People are urged to avoid the area and speak to our officers if they have any concerns. We have officers deployed across key sites in the local area. We can confirm three people have died, including the offender, who was shot by GMP Firearms officers.""
""A spokesperson praised the "quick response" of a witness to the attack which allowed police to take "swift action" to prevent the offender "from entering the synagogue".""
""Police said it had "declared Plato" - the code-word used by UK police and emergency services when responding to a "marauding terror attack".""
Three people, including the attacker, died during a terror attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, north Manchester, on Yom Kippur. A car was driven into members of the public and a man was stabbed, leaving several people injured. Police firearms officers shot dead the attacker after responding to an incident on Middleton Road. Greater Manchester Police arrested two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. Police declared Plato, urged people to avoid the area, and credited a witness's quick response for preventing entry to the synagogue.
