Man paralysed from neck down in parachuting accident aged 31
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"Rob Bugden, now 40, was aged 31 on January 21 2016, when his life changed forever. After jumping out of a plane from 5,000 feet during a parachuting exercise, a mid-air collision caused Rob and his teammate to plummet to the ground from around 1,000 feet, breaking Rob's neck and leaving him with life-altering injuries. Over the last decade, Rob has had to adapt to a completely different way of life."
Journalists are deployed to cover reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech and to investigate political financing and produce documentaries highlighting activists. Free access to reporting and analysis is maintained without paywalls, with funding sought from donations by those who can afford it to support on-the-ground reporting. An RAF veteran suffered catastrophic injuries during a parachuting training session after a mid-air collision, falling nearly 1,000 feet and breaking his neck. The veteran, Rob Bugden, was 31 at the time and is now quadriplegic with limited arm movement and requires round-the-clock care. He receives support from friends, family, his dog Denzel and the RAF Benevolent Fund and lives in an adapted home in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. He joined the Royal Air Force on 17 September 2008 as a physical training instructor.
