"It is alleged Gillian was abused over a significant period of time, and it is further alleged that this abuse contributed to her death, police say. This is a complex investigation with very few charges of this nature authorised across the country. We are supporting Gillian's family, who ask for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time."
"We have decided to prosecute Seyhan Assaf with manslaughter and controlling or coercive behaviour. This decision comes after working closely with the Metropolitan Police as they have carried out their investigation into the death of Gillian Morand. Our prosecutors worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring these charges to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings."
A 45-year-old man, Seyhan Assaf from Sidcup, has been charged with manslaughter and coercive or controlling behavior following the 2020 death of 36-year-old Gillian Morand from Bexley. Police received domestic abuse allegations shortly after Morand's death in March 2020, which an inquest determined was suicide. After a six-year investigation, the Metropolitan Police arrested Assaf and, following Crown Prosecution Service consultation, proceeded with charges. Authorities allege Morand experienced abuse over a significant period, which contributed to her death. Assaf is scheduled to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on March 7. Police seek information from anyone who contacted Morand in the decade before her death.
