Lime bikes, Oasis, Strawberries & Cream sandwiches, Kim Kardashian bras: How Londoners spent their money in 2025
"Customers of an online bank spent 10m this summer hiring Lime bikes, in the latest indication of the popularity of dockless e-bikes in London. This year Lime found itself at the centre of attention when actor Timothee Chalamet rode a Lime bike the South Bank premiere of the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. The latest data on the amount spent hiring the bikes comes from a report by digital bank Monzo on the spending habits of its customers."
"Tesco was the most popular supermarket with Monzo customers, who spent 1.7 billion on groceries - nearly double the 930m spent at Sainsbury's. Spending on AI platforms such as OpenAI more than doubled from 8 million in 2024 to 19 million in 2025. Monzo's data also revealed that the second-hand shopping boom showed no signs of slowing down this year. Its customers spent 210 million on resale platforms like Vinted and Depop over 2025, 13 per cent more than 2024."
Monzo customers spent 10m hiring Lime dockless e-bikes between June and September, reflecting strong urban micromobility demand. Monzo recorded 12m people and businesses on its books in May and ranks as the seventh largest UK bank by customer numbers. Customers spent 341,000 at Wembley across seven Oasis concerts, versus 886,000 for Taylor Swift the previous year. Spending included 70m on coffee, 1.84m on Skims, and 4.2m Pret a Manger transactions. Tesco attracted 1.7bn on groceries compared with 930m at Sainsbury’s. AI platform spending rose from 8m to 19m and resale purchases reached 210m.
