In April 2023, Khizer Ali, a 24-year-old driver with only a provisional license and no insurance, caused a deadly crash in Redditch, resulting in the instant death of 65-year-old Valerie Ayres and serious injuries to her husband. Following the accident, Ali fled but was arrested later at his home and sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison. His sister, Sanaa Shahzad, also faced legal repercussions for permitting Ali to drive without proper insurance and licensing, with her sentencing scheduled for June.
