Killer who stabbed man in unprovoked attack jailed
"Devon Brown, 30, murdered Okechukwu Iweha, 46, with a machete in Tottenham, north London, on 7 April last year. Brown, who fled to the United States following the stabbing, had denied murder but was found guilty after a trial. Mr Iweha's sister Ojiugo Mukasa told the Old Bailey during sentencing that what took place was "cruel and inexplicable," adding: "Nothing can truly convey the magnitude of what has been taken from us.""
"The court heard Brown had been seeking revenge against a man who stole his bicycle and 10,000 in cash. "You were tragically mistaken in your belief that Mr Iweha was that man," Judge Anuja Dhir KC said. Brown, of Northumberland Park in Tottenham, had pulled out a large machete which he had hidden in a sheath inside his clothes and repeatedly hit Mr Iweha who died on the road, the court heard. Mr Iweha's body was found by a passing Uber driver."
