A 29-year-old man was sentenced for driving while over the legal alcohol limit after crashing his vehicle into a tree. The incident occurred in Hermitage, Berkshire, at around 12:05 am on April 27. The driver, who had a passenger, was taken to the hospital following the crash. A breathalyser test later showed he was just under twice the legal limit for alcohol. During sentencing, the judge noted the lack of injuries caused by the incident but acknowledged the driver's remorse and impact on the public and his colleagues.
Judge Sam Goozee emphasized to Murphy during sentencing that he was fortunate that neither he, his passenger, nor the public sustained injuries due to his reckless behavior.
Murphy's breathalyser reading of 66mg per 100 millilitres of breath indicated he was just shy of twice the legal limit for alcohol while driving.
His defense barrister, Alex Di Francesco, expressed Murphy's remorse, stating he wanted to apologize to his passenger, the public, and his colleagues in racing.
Murphy was charged after crashing his grey Mercedes A Class into a tree in Hermitage while being substantially over the prescribed alcohol limit.
